Background information:
- Needless to say, we received a lot of rain over the weekend in East Tennessee. Norris Lake has been filling rapidly and the water level will be almost 1027 feet above mean sea level by midnight tonight.
- Normally, the lake is full at 1020 feet – meaning that the water level will be 7 feet higher than “normal.”
- The shore-end of the marina walkway is anchored at approximately 1022 feet above sea level – which is approximately 5 feet deeper than the water level of the lake. As a result, it isn’t possible to access the marina via the walkway until the lake level drops to at least 1023 feet.
What you need to know:
- We are suspending use of the community pontoon boats until the lake level drops to 1023 feet above mean sea level.
- If you have a private boat in the marina, please use a small boat or craft to access the marina – do not attempt to swim.
- Be assured that the Marina is not in danger. The wooden ramp has been repositioned up the hill so that it won’t float away. Also, the marina cables are being adjusted to maintain the marina’s position in the cove.
We do not know how long the lake will remain at it’s unprecedented level. It may take two or more weeks to draw down. As soon as the marina becomes accessible, an update will be posted here. In the meantime, we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.
